It was 102 today. That's right. 102 with a real feel of 105. And it was fucking hot. Jess' plan was to get up early so we could beat the crowds in Trogir. I might be dehydrated and hallucinating - but I was up at 7 after having shitty sleep again and then we probably did not leave the house until close to 9. My times may be off but whatever. I can make up a whole story if you'd like.
Jess finally got cereal that they liked, so that was good - though then at least two complained that they wanted more and had to have yogurt. Neil passed out on the couch in the living room because he said his stomach hurt. Malcolm - who he abuses, made sure to find him a blanket and covered him. He might have had a pillow and was only covering his head when I walked in but I couldn't testify to that.
We got on our way and Jess had to buy some figs from an old lady on the way to the bus. They were good. Not as good as ours that we will miss the entire crop!
We waited in the sun for the bus to come - did I mention it was 102? We took the fairly quick ride to Trogir. We arrived and made our way over to the walled city - which the streets and stone were reminiscent of Venice - which makes sense since the Venetians controlled the city for a long time.
After making our way to the main square, we decided to climb the clocktower of the church - there honestly wasn't a lot to do, but 140 steps was nothing compared to the 463 - but it was about 6,000 degrees hotter. The entrance to the church above was the highlight of the tourist stuff and represents a significant contribution to something at the time of it's crafting. Jess read it to us but I forget. So, we headed up to the top.
There was far less bickering on this ascent. I thank the heat. Inside though, it's not necessarily better.
The internet connection is being a real shit tonight. So, for now, I am going to have to write and then hope that it gets a little faster or there will be no pics until...who knows when because we are going into the wilds of Greece and I doubt it will be any better there.
We spent some time walking around the rest of Trogir. There was a castle (which we didn't go into) and then headed back through the town to get some gelato (unless it was called something else) and make our way to the bus. It was hot waiting there for the bus - and a certain little girl left her hat at the bus stop when we left to come - so now, she is hatless in the 102 degree heat. Did I mention that?
We made our way back and I took them back to the apartment and Jess and Neil - got lunch for everyone. I was destroyed - between being sick and the heat, I felt like I was sweating out of every centimeter of my body. I went up and took a nap...I know you've heard this before, but I napped HARD. It was needed - but I do think maybe I never got on a schedule here and that is part of my sleeping problem right now.
When I got up we putzed around for a bit because it was still boiling. Jess ran to get me something to eat and some more of these sausages that the kids liked from their lunch and we got ready to hear to the beach.
They have a floating jumpy think on the water here and of course - we had to do it. So we spend thousands of dollars, create an amazing three week tour of Italy, Croatia and Greece and THIS is going to be the thing that they remember most about this trip:
Yes, that's Isla getting launched.
They spent an hour on here - and had a blast! Jess and I watched from the shore, discussing a few things about the upcoming soccer season and the morons who run the club. It's really pathetic at this point to be honest. Anyway, we headed back and Jess and Neil ran to the store to get some stuff for dinner - which was parfaits - but it worked because Malcolm actually ate.
Tomorrow, it is supposed to be a cool 97 and we are headed to Split - complete with GoT sites.
